HELLO,
MY NAME IS TARA THOMPSON
(BUT I GO BY ALYSSA)
WHO I AM
I believe there is more to a person than what they do for a living. Outside of work, I love to be physically active, read, write, and travel. I stay healthy and grounded through my yoga practice and hiking. Currently I am reading "Atomic Habits" by James Clear and writing a children's book. I value positive personal and professional growth, authenticity, and making the best use of the time that I have in this world.

ACADEMIC ADVISOR, THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT SAN ANTONIO
DEC 2020 - AUG 2021

This was one of my favorite jobs because I helped people every single day and often got to see the fruit of my labor. I had the wonderful opportunity to work hands on with undergraduate students guiding them in academic policy and career planning. This role was so much more that telling students what classes to take in order to graduate on time. Everyday I had the privilege to help students increase their maturity, problem solving skills, professionalism, and the ability to recognize their own potential.

After the professional hurdle of pandemic related layoffs, I not only rebounded, but advanced my career with UTSA in this position. With a massive rebranding of the college identity, I was a vital part of the Tactical Visioning Team. Additionally, I reorganized scholarship protocol and created a new student orientation program for liberal and fine arts undergraduates. I worked closely with the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies in a Texas wide comparison of degree requirements which would serve as the data for the justification to adjust UTSA's degree requirements
